Veja are are a French company who are the first brand to create fair trade sneakers. Made in Brazil from natural products and respecting the workers that produce them, Veja shoes escape the 'hippie' aesthetic.
The Veja fabric is made from organic cotton grown by small producers in north eastern Brazil. The sole is Amazonian natural rubber gathered by a cooperative of small producers. Veja also claims that the sewing and assembly is carried out by cooperatives where workers where their fundamental rights are respected.
The design was apparently inspired by Brazilian volley shoes from the 1970s.
According to Veja the fair trade premium paid to the producers aims at financing development projects in health, education and environmental fields.
