Sean Godsell - St Andrews beach house

Sean Godsell is a young up and coming Melbourne based architect. His St Andrews beach house won him the 2006 Robyn Boyd award, Australia's highest architectural honour for residential buildings.

This sits him in illustrious company, Stutchbury + Pape, Durbach Block Architects, Glenn Murcutt, Alexander Tzannes, Alex Popov and Gabrielle Poole are all previous winners.

The St Andrews beach house has been designed so that the occupants have to go inside and outside moving from room to room. This was a request from the client "as a way of using the weekend house to re-humanise oneself after a week of office work". The house is essentially a series of screens that protects the occupants from the extremes of weather whilst ensuing that you can't be removed from experiencing them.
